5 Ways To Get Your Team Involved in Conservation
by Helen Cordery
We often write about the ways people can get involved with conservation, but what about on a corporate level? The truth is social and environmental responsibility is now an important component of business, and here at Pūkaha we’re blessed to offer a number of ways your business can get involved with the conservation work we do here. All proceeds go towards the birds so you can safely say that every coffee you drink and meeting you hold in our boardroom is going 100% back into the environment causes you believe in.
1) Conference room hire
It’s not every day that you can say your meetings contributed to the release of native New Zealand birds, but that is exactly what happens when you hire out our boardroom.
We have two spaces available: our Rangitāne Room and Huia Room, both which seat ample numbers and which come with all the usual modcons you’d expect: wifi for guests, whiteboard and markers, data projector, etc. These rooms are just a stone’s throw away from our takahē enclosure and if you’re lucky you may glimpse one of resident bush birds including tītipounamu (rifleman), kererū, kākā or even kōkako.
Room | Capacity theatre style | Capacity classroom style | Capacity boardroom style | Capacity U-shape | Capacity Banquet or Cabaret | Capacity Cocktail – standing
Huia Room | 100 | 80 | 60 | 60 | 80 | 150
Rangitāne Room (boardroom) | 20 | 16 | 16 | N/A | 36 | 40 |
2) Event catering
We are proud to have our on-site Kākā Café which has recently been revamped to boast a changing monthly menu featuring local, seasonal ingredients. We have barista coffee available, plenty of small snack options and meal items. Catering can include finger food, dinner and special occasion foods, while all dietary requirements can be provided for.
3) Become a member
The ultimate way to reward your staff for all their hard mahi, our business membership options give your team free access to Pūkaha as well as preferential bookings for events and one free boardroom hire a year. We also give 10% off of all Kākā Café and Visitor Centre gift shop purchases. The benefit of buying membership for your staff is that nature is being touted as the new medicine for stress, anxiety and depression so by getting on board, you are helping to lighten the load your colleagues may carry.
4) Corporate sponsorship
Sponsorship is perfect for businesses who are serious about giving back and getting involved with the conservation effort. The truth is that none of the work we do here at Pūkaha would be possible without corporate sponsorship (go here to see a list of our sponsors) and we have three tiers available so you have plenty of options to choose from, and each one comes with a unique set of benefits. How many other businesses can say they’ve named a kiwi or contributed to the release 10% of the world’s total shore plover population? Go here to find out how corporate sponsorship can work with you.
5) Team building
We all know that building a strong team takes more than just sharing an office and what better way to get to know your colleagues than on a trip into nature?
Our Loop Track takes approximately two hours and follows a meandering track up and downhill. We call this wild kōkako territory because some of our thirty wild pairs of kōkako are often seen along this route. Keep your eyes peeled for our beautiful native bushbirds like the wax eye or bugs like the tree wētā and giraffe weevil.
We can also help organise outdoor activities using props or put together a special volunteering trip alongside our rangers so that your team can learn more about what we do here. The opportunities are endless!
