About the Programme
Junior Rangers runs during NZ school holidays on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10am – 3pm.
Designed for young nature lovers, each day is spent exploring the Pūkaha Reserve – discovering the forest, learning about native manu (birds), and watching the tuna (longfin eels) being fed.
Each session has a different theme and is flexible to suit the weather and the interests of the group.
Session Dates
Tuesday 29 September – Nests & Eggs: New Life at Pūkaha
This session explores how native birds reproduce, raise their young, and survive in the wild.
Thursday 1 October – Insects: The Little Things That Matter
Junior Rangers get up close with the often-overlooked creatures that play an important role in healthy ecosystems.
Tuesday 6 October – Nature Heroes
Junior Rangers become conservation heroes for the day, exploring the people, species, and actions that help protect Aotearoa’s natural environment.
Thursday 8 October – Finding Out Your Wai
The final session explores the importance of wai and the connections between freshwater, people, wildlife, and the wider environment.
