Tours and Talks
At Alert Level 2, enjoy our unique Bubble Tour.
All of our usual tours are available at Alert Level 2. Our Bubble Tour is a new offering launched at Alert Level 2 to cater for small self-contained bubbles with an emphasis on safe social distancing.
We hold the following daily talks, free with every entrance ticket:
- 11:00 am Reptiles and Forgotten Fauna
- 12:00 pm Kiwi
- 1:30 pm Longfin Eel
- 3:00 pm Kākā
We also offer tours, workshops and experiences, school holiday programmes and visits for schools, community organisations and other groups:

Our aviary track through the forest is accessible for those in wheelchairs or using strollers.
We have a mobility scooter, stroller and umbrellas for our customers use available at the counter on a first come first served basis.

Te Hīkoi o Pūkaha
Join Rangitāne on a walk through the bush. Learn about wildlife, trees and traditional stories of the Tangata Whenua (people of the land). Listen to ancient stories of the Pūkaha forest. Discover Māori whakapapa (genealogy), spirituality and connection to place. Includes shared kai (food) of kawakawa tea and bread. Tour is 2 hours and includes entry.

Join our skilled rangers as they take you on an unforgettable search for kiwi, wētā, and eels, and view our very own glow worm cave. Only for the intrepid at heart! Includes entry.

Ranger for a Day Experience
Join our Rangers for a day on the ultimate conservation experience. Start the day before everyone else. You will shadow various Team Members whilst they perform their daily duties. Actual activities may vary depending on the needs of the wildlife, but may include: weighing kiwi, feeding bush birds, cleaning inside aviaries and more. Talk to the team during morning tea and lunch whilst eating tasty food provided by Kākā Cafe. Finish your experience at the Kākā talk. Includes entry.

5-14 year olds wanting to engage with nature and learn about Pūkaha’s living ecosystem will want to sign up for our holiday Junior Ranger programme.
Spend the day exploring the forest, meeting the birds and help prepare lunch for the kākā – plus feed our resident longfin eels!
